Welcome to Durmstrang, a magical school in which the focus is around the Dark Arts, equality is a word that doesn't seem to be understood and everyone seems to have their dirty little secrets. Not only are the students secretive, but so is their rarely seen Headmaster, Professor Karkaroff.
Karkaroff was the Headmaster for as long as anyone could remember. Before Karakaroff was his father. The family passed down traditions to the school that were hard to break. Males were held superior to females, and purebloods were valued above everyone else. The common rooms are evidence of this. Anyone not of pureblood descent are placed in the House Unrein. They are generally treated cruelly, and their common room is not very well kept, or very big, and are in the dingy dungeons. As for the pureblood boys, they have the best common room of all with the best view. The pureblood girls have a very nice common room as well. Also, those connected with the Dark Arts are generally well off as well.
However, not everyone agrees with these traditions. As new generations of students are coming in, they're bringing in rebellion, especially to the old ways.
Many new girls are not reacting to their treatment. Although inequality between the girls and boys is not that much, there still is a barrier, as seen through the pureblood male-oriented House Junge and the female-oriented House Frau (along with the House Unrein, which Houses anything but purebloods). They are fighting back, demanding to be treated with respect and dignity. Many boys are agreeing with the girls, believing that girls shouldn't be treated this way either.
The half-bloods and Muggle-borns are fighting back, too. They are entering the student lounge without fear, and are demanding a cleaner common room. However, their requests are going unheard, and their education is still minimal, especially next to the other students'.
As for the Dark Arts, hardly any families are associated with the Dark Arts anymore, which is something that Karkaroff isn't too pleased with. It's like everyone nowadays is from a pure home. Even worse, it's no longer just Dark families which are rich. No one seems to want to even learn the Dark Arts anymore, and with the rise of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, more students are wanting Defense Against the Dark Arts.
But there are always those students who are with tradition, want to keep the school the way it is, and have no problems with the way things are run, and will do anything to keep it the way it is... minus a few Mudbloods, of course.
How will the new rebellion affect Durmstrang, and will Durmstrang ever get a good reputation, or will it stay the same, or gradually become more and more associated with You-Know-Who? Only you can decide!
